Naturopathic Medicine Philosophy & Process to Well-Being

Naturopathic medicine is an entire system of natural medicine philosophy, therapies and lifestyle.
The profession is unified by the philosophy of naturopathic medicine.

These are the six principles that define Naturopathic (Natural) Medicine Philosophy:

  1. Vis Medicatrix Naturae: The Healing Power of Nature
  2. Tolle Causam: Remove the Cause
  3. Primum Non Nocere: First, Do No Harm
  4. Docere: The Doctor as Teacher
  5. Treat the Whole Person
  6. Prevention

Using the Healing Power of Nature

Your body has a wise internal organization and
is naturally self-healing.
The basic nature of your body is to heal itself.
The doctor’s role is to assist in this process of self-healing.

Your physical body has an ordered, intelligent inner wisdom.
If your doctor is wise, they understand
they cannot interfere with or take the place of
this intelligence which directs the process of healing.

Mission:
Remove the Cause

Illness does not occur without cause.
Causes originate on many levels.
Causes of disease show up in any of these four levels:
spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical.

You are not simply a physical body.
You are a spiritual being with a spiritual (etheric) body.

You have a mind, you think.
You feel emotions and translate your feelings into meaning.

In the process of healing
you must first seek,
then remove the cause.

As the cause of illness is removed, your body naturally improves.

Spiritual Imbalance (karma) Causes Illness

Early naturopathic doctors understood natural medicine philosophy. The ‘elder doctors’, such as Lindlhar, Lust and Hahnemann, believed
illness begins in the spiritual aspect of the person.
It is crucial to direct your attention to any possible spiritual causes of illness.

Of the four aspects or planes of being,
your spiritual body is central;
next is your mental body,
then your emotions, and finally,
your physical body.

If there is a distortion on your spiritual level,
it will create distortions throughout all your bodies
(spiritual (etheric), mental, emotional and physical).

Because you are a total and energetic being,
it is vitally important to recognize and pursue healing
using the spiritual aspect of your life.

  • Do you actively pursue a spiritual practice?
  • Could any lack or imbalance be part of the dis-quiet or disease in your life?
  • Do you have the presence of peace and trust in your life?

Health and potential happiness requires the foundation of a spiritual path.
The extent you address the need to change on a spiritual level
will be
a strong determining factor in whether you get better.

Illness is always a teacher.
It is both a privilege and a responsibility to work with
the healing power of nature to assist your healing process.

Natural Process to Gain Well-Being

  1. Identify and remove causes of illness,
  2. Re-establish healthy conditions,
  3. Stimulate self-healing mechanisms,
  4. Supplement and support the affected systems of your body,
  5. Correct structural integrity.

When you and your naturopathic (natural medicine) doctor follow this process in order,
you should get better and stay better.

Naturopathic medicine is

  • efficient,
  • usually acts quickly, and
  • helps you achieve,
  • then maintain your health.
